A Production Pipeline using Toon Boom Harmony 12. Finish your Content, Find your Audience, Create your Dream Projects.
Do you have an idea for a cartoon you want to make? Or possibly a series? But don't want to spend a year, or so, in the process.
Maybe you are completely new to animation, or maybe you are an animation enthusiast from way back. Either way, you probably know that animation can be time-consuming. Great ideas for cartoons often become unfinished films, because there never seems to be enough time to get all the animation done.
Do you really need to be a master animator like Glen Keane (Ariel, Beast) or Richard Williams (Roger Rabbit) to make your cartoon now? Do you have to be a software genius to make funny drawings move? Is it possible to create your dream project without losing sleep, losing your friends, losing your job, losing your mind?
You have fun story ideas that would work great in animation. You can sketch the characters, props and backgrounds just the way you want them to look. You have a couple of hours here, and a couple of hours there, on some evenings and weekends. These are most of the ingredients that cartoons are made of, but one is missing . . .
You just found the missing ingredient . . .
This online course, available at your convenience, on-demand, will show you how to master the twelve steps of a digital production pipeline that is built for the individual artist.
What does a production pipeline do?
The animation studios (especially those producing for television) have very clear systems in place to get the property produced in the most economical way possible. Once the idea is created and sent into their system (pipeline), the focus is on efficiently transforming the idea into a finished product - on schedule.
You bring your ideas, a computer, and your current drawing skill level. That's it! This system shows you where to get the software you need, and guides you through each step all the way to your finished cartoon.
What are the requirements?
This course is built around Toon Boom Harmony and Toon Boom Storyboard Pro software, both of which have full-featured trial downloads. Although it is possible to go through this course using only the trial versions (I'll tell you at which lesson to start your trial), it is recommended to utilize the new, affordable subscription model for those softwares to best benefit from the course.
The additional software that is suggested for some lessons (Sketchbook Express, Audacity, Gimp) runs on both Mac and Windows operating systems and can be downloaded at no cost.
A quick look at the system requirements specifications of the listed software will help students find the appropriate computer needed to take the course.
Additionally, it is suggested, but not required, to use a Wacom tablet and stylus for some parts of the course.
What am I going to get from this course?
Over 79 lectures and 12.5 hours of content!
A documented system to produce up to three minutes of television style 2D animation in as little as 40 hours.
Professional software strategies. A "behind-the-curtain" tour of Toon Boom Harmony and Storyboard Pro by a Toon Boom certified trainer.
What is the target audience?
Animation school applicants required to submit a reel.
Story creators in search of a system to consistently produce animated episodes.
The course is an excellent primer for anyone moving to the Toon Boom Harmony platform.
This is not an art course, nor will it train you how to come up with story ideas, but it is a series of lessons about mastering a digital production pipeline that an individual artist needs to systematically finish his or her content.
